Comparison: Samsung Champ vs Genoa

Recently the trend for touchscreen phones has emerged greatly and at the forefront of this changing trend Samsung has been developing a range of different touch screen phones for different market segments . Budget touch screen phones are a good way for cellular manufacturers to entice customers to buy their phones and introduce people who have been using other brands to try their brand.

Keeping in view this trend Samsung introduced a range of touch screen phones but here we will be discussing the budget smartphones , Samsung Champ and Samsung Genoa 3510.

SAMSUNG CHAMP 3300K: THE BUDGET TOUCHSCREEN

Weighting just 80 grams and having a 2.4 inches display Samsung Champ has a youthful touch to it. In-fact it has been designed and delivered for the young having features such as stereo speakers, 1.3 MP camera, Social networking integration, FM radio which does not require a pair of hands-free to play, a micro-SD card slot which supports upto 8GB of memory,
Samsung Champ: Budget touch screen.

The Design & Feel

Plastic made entirely, feels a little too much plastic and the plastic catches fingerprints too. The feel of the phone is solid, without any signs of any loose patch, The top offers the micro USB port slot and 3.5mm jack. The right has the keypad lock key where as the left side has volume keys. The back has 1.3MP camera lens. Micro-SD card slot is placed inside the phone , you have to remove the battery to take it out, which is not an easy way to do it. The slot should have been on one the sides for easy use.

Camera & Connectivity
The camera is a pretty basic 1.3MP without Flash and auto focus, so expect a very basic low resolution result from this phone. You don't get everything for this much price.
It has bluetooth (A2DP) , GPRS and EDGE as well as WAP 2.0

Touch Experience and User Interface
TouchWiz environment can be found on the Samsung Champ. Allows upto seven home screens which you can customize according to your own needs. The touch screen is responsive and responds well to each touch, though be aware that you may require a fair of time for messaging since  it does not offer QWERTY keypad on screen and hence alphanumeric keypad requires that extra bit more hard work. However once you get used to it, its not a big deal.

Positives
  • Good Stereo Speakers
  • FM radio with built-in antenna
  • Low price for a touch phone.
  • 8GB memory support.
Negatives
  • No QWERTY on-screen ,
  • micro-SD card slot behind the battery
  • Old browser
  • Poor screen display under sunlight
SAMSUNG GENOA 3510
Samsung Genoa 3510 is a part of a long list of Samsung touchscreen cellphones. It also falls in the budget cellphone category . If we were to say that it is the scaled down version of Corby S3650 it wouldn't be wrong.

The Design and Feel
2.8 inch QVGA display which is larger then the champ 3310k. Round edges , curvy buttons are most prominent in the design. The SD-Card slot is easily accessible , 3.5mm audio jack is located at the top. Unlike the plastic feel of the champ , this phone feels good and commands more respect.

Camera and Connectivity
Similar to Champ, it also has a 1.3MP camera with no other functions to talk about. The camera has a basic result and is nothing to comment about. It provides just enough result for some quick photos without considering the result or image quality.
As far as connectivity is concerned there is no EDGE i.e you will have to wait for pages to load and that would be in the form of simple pages . Includes bluetooth (A2DP)

Touch Experience and User Interface:
Samsung: Genoa 3510
Touchwiz interface handles the UI in this phone as well as in all the touch phones of Samsung lately.Don't expect multi-tasking facility nor expect social networking widgets. You only get social networking sites mobile page links which means it would not be possible for you to manage your social network account easily.

POSITIVES
  • Good strong construction and feel
  • Larger display then Champ
  • Better Battery timing
NEGATIVES
  • 1.3MP basic camera
  • Price does not justify its features when compared with Champ 3310K.
  • No accelerometer for auto rotate.
Conclusion:
If you are willing to pay extra money for a larger display and some more music playback battery time then go for Genoa 3510 otherwise its better to buy Champ.
