Review: Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type Review

NOKIA C3-01 Touch and Type:

As the trend continues for touch mobiles , Nokia has come up with another type of mobiles which combine the fun and ease of both the old and new worlds. Yes we are talking about the latest addition to the Nokia series C3 Touch and Type which combines the pleasure of both touch and type. It will be interesting to see what it feels like when you have both touch and type functionalities in your palm .

The Design , Display and the Feel

Unlike some other phones , it feels rather strong and sturdy in the hand. It has an exclusive steel finish all around which makes it look extra exclusive and it feels much more dignified in the hand and demands much respect similar to that which you may give to some higher priced cellphones then C3 touch and type.

One prominent feature regarding the looks of the phone is the large keypad which makes it really comfortable to use the keypad .

Display size is 2.4 inches which holds a resolution of 240x320 pixels. The display has large text display and sunlight legibility is also good , giving this phone an extra piece of exclusivity. The display is one of the main components of a phone and unless it is a good one a phone cannot impress enough. Although the display size is rather small for a touch phone but since its a combination of both therefore we are satisfied with the display size since we have large keypad.

The right side of the phone holds the volume controller keys, camera button and lock button. At the back there is the 5MP camera lens with the LED flash while a loud speaker can be found at the bottom back. On the top there are 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB port and charging port. Nothing though on the left side of the phone. The microSD card slot resides inside the phone and under the battery which is not a good location for the slot.

User Interface and Connectivity:

C3-01 runs on symbian S40 which is what we are fond of already so nothing new in the UI. Since the phone is touch and type both , most of the phone functionalities are controlled through the keypad.
The display is not a capacitive display therefore lacks hundred percent smoothness while scrolling the pages or going through the pictures but overall its responsive and fast.

The phone offers all essential connectivity options like 3G, Bluetooth (v2.1 A2DP), EDGE , GPRS (class 10), 2.0 microUSB, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), email client, opera mini and the s40 web browser.

Camera and Video result:

C3-01 offers a 5MP camera without autofocus but with LED flash. The camera quality is good in ample sunlight , while it falls to a low quality level when there is no light or during night the photographs are not of good quality.

Conclusion:

Some cons of the phone which are most obvious are:

  • No auto rotate
  • No autofocus for a 5MP camera
  • No document viewer
  • Poor location of microSD card slot
Some Pros of the phone are:

  • Solid built and very good metallic finish
  • Large easy to use keypad
  • Touch experience is good
While the touch experience is some what less enjoyable because of the small screen , the phone performs well and has all the basic ingredients and an extra edge because of offering touch and type options that makes this phone a good phone overall for its price.
