Adding to the lineup of Bold series is the new 9780. Based on our experience of Blackberry Bold 9000 we were not expecting some thing big from the new offering. In fact , we thought of it as being another variant of the not so popular Bold series. The biggest improvement to the Bold 9780 is the latest operating system OS 6.0. Till now there are only two Blackberry smart phones which offer OS 6.0 the one being Torch 9800 and the other being Bold 9780 which is what we are reviewing.Display & Design:
The display measures 2.4 inch which is a bit smaller compared to Bold 9000 but offers the same 480x360 pixels resolution. Though it comes with Qwerty keypad , the main button is optical trackpad rather then the commonly found optical trackball in previous older blackberry phones.
It would not be wrong to say that it offers a good bright display. The phone is not heavy either and the feel in palm is solid.
Camera & Multimedia:
The phone is also equipped with a 5-megapixel camera that comes with an auto focus, image stabilizer and a 3x digital zoom.It also offers different shoot modes like sports mode.BlackBerry OS6 has an updated user interface media player which can play back MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA and AMR audio files. In addition, the phone also supports MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 video formats.
Browsing Experience & Connectivity:

| New Menu on Blackberry OS 6 - via BGR |
Processor:
The processor is the same as in the previous Bold 9000 ie 624 MHz which is not the fastest nowadays but can be considered moderate. The only improvement in this section is the increase of RAM from 256 to 512 MB in Bold 9780 which makes multi tasking much faster.
User Interface:
Blackberry OS 6 packs improvements to the previous version. The most prominent things are:
- Update all social networks with one click
- Tabbed browsing as mentioned above
- Camera modes
- Youtube application
- Redone menu.
Positives :- Good media player
- Reworked menu is better then before
- Fanatastic browser
- Display should have been bigger
- 624 MHz processor is slower when compared to equivalent smart phones.
Its definitely a step ahead then the previous Bold series smart phones. Wonderful OS and increased RAM provide a good start for future Bold series smart phones. A definite Buy !
