There was much argument by the telecom operators of the viability of buying 3G licenses at such high prices. Now the PTA has hinted that PTA may allow operators to run 4G on their 3G license. This is a great move. We think this will be a win win situation for PTA , The telecom operators and the end users.
We have long awaited for 3G and the time when it should have been introduced has lapsed. The world has already started rolling out LTE networks and so moving to 3G now would mean you would be lagging atleast ten years behind the world. Ten years down the road when the world would be moving to maybe 5G or beyond we would be scratching our heads and thinking of whether to introduce 4G now or not.
The better option is to allow 4G technology on 3G license to telecom operators. It would be then the decision of individual telecom operators whether to go for 3G or 4G or stay in between 3G and 4G. What we as end users wish that this year PTA would issue 3G licenses and we would get faster speeds on our smartphones and not just cheer ourselves with 2MB internet bucket for 5Rs.
